Staying in the garden of West Third Ring Road, the accommodation experience at this old hotel far exceeded expectations
As a regular traveler who travels back and forth to Haidian, Beijing, I have stayed in many hotels along the West Third Ring Road. This time, after staying at Xiyuan Hotel Beijing for three consecutive days, I realized that this old star rated hotel, which has been rooted for decades, completely breaks away from the stereotype of "old-fashioned hotels" and incorporates relaxation, comfort, and attention to detail into every accommodation experience. After staying, I feel a little reluctant to leave even for the return trip.
Just finished the procedures and followed the staff to the room, passing through the hotel's own Chinese garden corridor. The wind wrapped in the fragrance of pine and bamboo in the courtyard blew over, instantly pulling me out of the noisy traffic on the West Third Ring Road. I specifically chose a courtyard view room and was amazed as soon as I opened the door. The 40 plus square meter space completely lacked the typical cramped and oppressive feeling of old hotels. The warm toned wooden decoration combined with soft diffuse reflection lighting, without glaring strong light, relieved me of the exhaustion of rushing as soon as I entered. The view by the window is facing the rockery and flowing water in the courtyard. Sitting on the soft chair by the window, sipping a cup of local Fu tea provided by the hotel for free, watching the koi swimming in the pond in the courtyard, even slowing down the time.
The most surprising thing is the bedding experience. The softness and hardness of the mattress are just right, not too soft to sink into my waist and make me feel sore, nor too hard to make me feel uncomfortable. There are two types of pillows to choose from: buckwheat and down pillows. I noted in advance that I wanted a harder buckwheat pillow, and when I entered the room, I saw that both pillows had been arranged according to my habits. I was busy running to the university all day, but when I got back to my room, I immediately fell asleep. The double-layer soundproof glass in the room exceeded expectations, and after closing the door, I couldn't hear any traffic from outside. Even the wind blowing on the leaves in the courtyard was just right, and I slept soundly all night. The next day, I didn't feel tired from my usual business trips.
The thoughtfulness in the details can be found everywhere. The independent dry wet separation bathroom is cleaned spotlessly, with no traces of scale found. The hot water comes out within 3 seconds of opening, and the water flow is large and stable. After a busy day, taking a hot shower directly eliminates most of the soreness and bloating all over the body. Beside the washbasin, not only are regular toiletries provided, but there are also additional moisturizers and mint mouthwash, so even travelers like me who often forget to bring skincare products don't have to rush out to buy them. Drinks and snacks in the mini bar are free of charge. Ice cola, normal temperature mineral water and local special Dim sum are all available. You don't have to go downstairs to the convenience store to get food when you are hungry late at night. The position of the desk is deliberately avoided from direct lighting, and it will not cause eye irritation when organizing data in front of the computer for a long time. The USB fast charging port reserved on the desktop is just right, so there is no need to squat on the ground to look for sockets. The computer, phone, and recording pen can be charged at the same time.
The hotel's public area experience is also fully online, and the 24-hour fitness center equipment is well maintained with no abnormal noise from old equipment. Even when busy at 9pm, you can take a half-hour run to stretch your shoulders and neck. The water quality of the indoor constant temperature swimming pool is clean and transparent. After swimming, taking a shower completely relaxes the whole person. The breakfast buffet in the morning has a wide range of items, from authentic old Beijing fermented sour milk made from ground mung bean wow gold coke rings to freshly made pancakes and fruits, western style bread and coffee. Even if you live for three consecutive days, you will not be tired of changing every day.
I used to think that old hotels only rely on their location to make a living, but after staying at Xiyuan Hotel Beijing, I realized that its excellence is never built on hardware, but on quietly taking care of every subtle need of its guests.
